Saint Andrew

Scotland:
According to tradition some of St Andrews Holy remains were taken to Scotland where he became Protector of the Scotish People.Today the site is world famous for its golf course and club.
When Constantius, son of Constantine, ordered that the Saints body be moved to the Church of the Apostles in Constantinople,
an angel appeared to the protector of the relics at Patras,a monk called Regulus, and told him to take part of them out of the casket that was going to Constantinople,
and await further instructions. When that city was seized by the Crusaders in 1204 , the remains were stolen and given to the Cathedral of Amalfi in Italy.

After two years of travelling and many hardships,Regulus was led to what is now called St Andrew's in Scotland. On landing, the King of the Picts and all his nobles venerated the relics.

Regulus built a church there and preached to the people. He was made its first bishop. He stayed there for 30 years.Over time the Scots took over the land and the Picts became integrated with the Scots.

The Great Battle:
Historians tell of a great battle in which Hungus,King of the Picts fought the Saxons.Hungus was camped at the mouth of the River Tyne.St Andrew appeared to him and told him to divide his army into seven bodies. He defeated the Saxons. There is also another story in which a divine light surrounds Hungus and the voice of St Andrew tells him that he will win the battle if he dedicates a tenth of his inheritance to God and St Andrew. He wins the Battle and thanks God and St Andrew.

Russia:
St Andrew is the Patron Saint of Russia. It is believed that Andrew taught in the City of Kiev in the Ukraine. This was the centre of the conversion of Russia in the eleventh century.

He is also the Patron Saint of Romania.
